Corfu Old Romaniote Jewish Cemetery
Site Address:The Corfu Old Sephardic cemetery as well as the the Corfu Old Romaniote cemetery were most probably located on the territory between 41 and 61, I. Theotoki Street, and from 1, I. Andreadi Street until its intersection with 1-3, Polichroniou Kostanta Street. From the northeastern side, the former cemetery site is delineated by a sheer cliff and by remnants of a stone wall with an old gate. The Old Romaniote cemetery was located on the eastern slope of Avramiou hill. Further research is required for an exact delineation.

Type and height of existing fence:No. A part of the cemetery’s wall, including a gate, is preserved. It is not clear whether it functioned as the cemetery’s outer wall, or a wall that divided the Sephardic and Romaniote cemeteries.
General Site Condition:The cemetery was demolished completely and the territory was built up. Today, there is a school, a fire station, a parking lot, as well as residential buildings on the site.
Number of existing gravestones:No tombstones preserved.
Urgency of erecting a fence:The cemetery is overbuilt.
Drone surveys:No. It was not possible to fly drones in the city centre above the police station.
