Historical overview

The cemetery dates back to the 15th century. Burials took place until the beginning of the 20th century. At that time, the area was completely filled with matzevot and decorated tombstones. Under the occupation during World War II, the cemetery was devastated by the Germans (there are also reports of its destruction after 1945). On its territory, executions of the Jewish population were carried out. After the war, in the 1950s and 1960s, the remains of matzevot were destroyed during earthworks.
