Kotoriba Jewish Cemetery
Kotoriba is a town and municipality in the Međimurje County, in northern Croatia. Historians are unsure when the town was established, but some believe that Kotorbia was built in the 16th century during the fight against the Turkish invasion. The first known record of the town goes back to 1620. In 1715, there were 100 houses with 500 inhabitants.
By 1772, the population of Kotorbia was 1163 people, the majority of them Croatian. In 1860, Kotorbia was the first town in Croatia to build a train station during the development of the railway system. There is little historical record of the Jewish population of the town. The Jewish population belonged to the nearby community of Koprivnica. In 1849, the local Jewish cemetery was built and existed until the 1990s. In the cemetery, there was only little that remained of some preexisting monuments in the end.
