Imbriovec Jewish Section within Municipal Cemetery
Imbriovec is a town in the Koprivnica-Križevci County. The earliest record of Imbriovec is from 1495. In 1857, the population was 428 and in 1910, 736. There is no historical knowledge of the Jewish community of the town. The local Jewish cemetery is part of the Imbriovec municipal cemetery. The cemetery still contains three Jewish graves that are on the cemetery’s main trail.
Although the inscriptions are gone, making it difficult to read, the three remaining graves belong to the Fisher family. One of the markers belongs to David Fisher, born in 1845 and who later died at the age of 86. The Fisher family was known for the famous war photographer, Hugo Fischer Ribari´c, who lived in Yugoslavia during the Second World War and took many photographs to document Bros Tito’s partisan units. Ribarc’s film about Jasenovac, a concentration camp in present-day Croatia, was the first piece of evidence against the atrocities of Croatian nationalists during the Holocaust.
